Your imposter syndrome is affecting your nest egg

I'm Christina Gamache, founder of Audax Wealth Management. I help women leaders with complicated financial lives make sense of their portfolio and get ready for their next chapter.

I want to tell you that your imposter syndrome is affecting your nest egg.

According to a Payscale.com research study, women earned 82 cents for every dollar a man earned in the last 12 months. The pandemic made it harder for women to close this pay gap, especially women of color, women in higher job levels (like executives) and women in certain industries.

Imposter Syndrome is where a high-achieving person continually doubts their own abilities and qualifications, despite being quite accomplished. It especially plagues women and minorities, maybe due to systemic racism and sexism in the corporate world, but that's another topic for another day.

Those of us fortunate enough to be employed or running a business owe it to ourselves, our families and our female colleagues to step up and face our imposter syndrome head on. Find out what is causing you to feel inadequate, whether it's at work or at home or with your finances.

I meet a lot of women who feel inadequate about taking control of their finances. They're scared, they procrastinate, they don't feel "smart" enough to be able to handle it. I'm talking about women with PhD's and CEOs of large companies.

What happens when you don't take control of your finances because you feel inadequate? You can miss opportunities for investing, you overspend your paycheck, you don't save enough for retirement or your kids' college. But most importantly, you delay the inevitable. Over 80% of us women will outlive our male spouses or be divorced at the end of our lives and be forced to then take control of our finances. At this time, it's too late to plan and too late to take advantage of many of the tools available.

So don't let this be you. Step into your confidence. You are a leader. Women lead at every place in their lives, whether you are leading at home, leading at work, or leading in the community. Face your imposter syndrome and start building your nest egg today. Visit audaxwealth.com to learn more and schedule a free consultation with me.

 Until next time, be well.
